The EV Tax Credit officially ended September 30th. Here’s what automakers benefited and lost from the last minute sales rush to dealers.

The EV tax credit is done. Gone. Dead. We’re now entering a new era where EVs have to make a case for themselves on their merits alone. The death of the tax credit caused what some are describing as a last minute dash to dealers to grab an EV. This may or may not have caused a sales boost at various automakers. So to find out if that’s true and not cherry pick certain automakers, let’s take a look at every automaker’s EV sales for Q3 2025.

Note: Some automakers give sales figures for either the quarter or September. And if an automaker’s sales numbers aren’t listed here, it means that they weren’t available.

Acura

2025 Acura ZDX Type S

Acura is in a special situation with its sole EV offering, the ZDX. Honda’s luxury division recently announced that the EV – which, along with the Honda Prologue was co-developed with GM – is ending production after just one model year. Car & Driver reported that Acura’s reasoning for axing the model was slower than expected EV adoption as well as EV related policies, which we can only assume to mean the one-two punch of tariffs and the end of the tax credit.

ZDX: 395 sold in September. Down 59.7%. 11,915 sold YTD. Up 295.3%

Audi

2026 Acura Q6 e-tron

Audi says it saw a 79% year over year increase in sales of BEVs in Q3. But it’s a bit more nuanced than that. Audi currently sells 8 EV models – well it’s really five as aside from the e-tron GT, each one are variants of a single model. Save for the new Q6 e-tron and its five figure percentage sales increase, nearly every one of Audi’s EVs is currently seeing a sales decline. An exception are the Q8 e-tron and its Sportback variant. Both have been discontinued.

A6 Sportback e-tron: 3,532 sold in September; 3,711 sold YTD

e-tron GT: 652 sold in September. Down 3%; 1,125 sold YTD. Down 46%

Q4 e-tron: 2,956 sold in September. Up 32%

Q4 Sportback e-tron: 590 sold in September. Down 20%. 1,473 sold YTD. Down 30%

Q6 e-tron: 10,059 sold in September. Up 22,761% year over year. 17,021 sold YTD. Up 38.584% year over year

Q6 Sportback e-tron: 240 sold for both September and YTD sales

BMW

2025 BMW i4 M50 xDrive

BMW has been doing pretty well with its EVs in the US. At least according to the company. It’s hard to get a read on just how many EVs BMW has sold because the company is sort of vague in its reporting. BMW groups its sales numbers together. For instance, BMW says that in Q3 2025, 16,096 “electrified” vehicles were sold in the US. That electrified term is referring to both plug-in hybrids and full EVs. That vagueness is reflected in BMW’s sales numbers. While BMW sells 4 EVs in the i4, i5, i7 and iX (with an iX3 coming soon), save for the iX, none of those models are listed individually on the sales report since each of those models are basically electric versions of their respective gas-powered counterparts.

iX: 3,136 sold in September. Down 33%. 9,878 sold YTD. Down 11.6%
*Strangely, despite being discontinued 5 years ago, BMW managed to sell a single i3 in September.

Cadillac

2026 Cadillac Lyriq

Cadillac’s EV sales are doing well. GM says the brand had its best Q3 and calendar year to date sales since 2013. Its EVs helped play a part in this.

Escalade IQ: 2,264 sold in Q3. 6,030 sold YTD

Lyriq: 7,309 sold in Q3. Up 1.1%. 16,626 sold YTD. Down 18.1%

Optiq: 4,886 sold in Q3. 9,826 sold YTD

Vistiq: 3,924 sold in Q3. 5,669 sold YTD

Chevy

2025 Chevy Blazer EV SS

GM seems to be killing it in EV sales and Chevy is a big part of the reason why. The EV tax credit’s death may have caused a sales rush at dealers as nearly every EV had double digit increases. The biggest winner was the Equinox EV with a massive 156.7% increase in September. Apparently, it’s the best selling non-Tesla EV on the market.

Blazer EV: 8.089 sold in September. Up 1.1%. 20,825 sold YTD. Up 36.7%

Equinox EV: 25,085 sold in September. Up 156.7% 52,835 sold for the year. Up 389.8%

Silverado EV: 3,940 sold in September. Up 97.4%. 9,379 sold YTD. Up 78.5%

Dodge

2025 Dodge Charger Daytona R/T

It’s safe to say that Dodge’s only EV, the Charger Daytona, hasn’t been the hit the brand thought it would be. It also seems that the combination of the EV tax credit and cheap lease deals didn’t help things either as less than 3,000 Charger Daytonas were sold in Q3.

Charger Daytona: 2,776 sold in Q3. 7.075 sold YTD

Fiat

2024 FIAT (500e) RED

The return of the Fiat 500 EV means that the Italian brand has one of the cheapest new EVs on the market. Buyers don’t seem to care though as Fiat sold handfuls of the 500 in Q3: just 288 were sold, bringing the grand total to 1,076 sold so far this year. How many of those were the 500 EV? Who knows as Fiat groups both the gas powered and EV sales numbers together.

Ford

F-150 Lightning Pro, E-Transit and Mustang Mach-E

Ford seems to have benefitted from a last minute dealer rush because of the EV tax credit. The automaker says sales of its EVs were up over 30% with 30,612 sold in Q3. Nearly 66% of those sales were the Mustang Mach-E.

Mustang Mach-E: 20,177 sold in Q3. Up 50.7%. 41,962 sold YTD. Up 17.8 %

F-150 Lightning: 10,005 sold in Q3. up 39.7%. 23,034 sold YTD. Up 1%.

E-Transit: 430 sold in Q3. Down 85.4%. 4,604 sold YTD. Down 50.3%

Genesis

2025 Genesis GV60

It’s hard to pin down exact sales numbers for Hyundai’s luxury division as the brand doesn’t publish them nor does Hyundai. However, the Korean Car Blog says that both Hyundai and Genesis saw a 12.8% sales increase in Q3. Just how many of those were any one of Genesis’ 3 EV models will remain unknown.

GMC

GMC Hummer EV

Both of GMC’s EVs saw sales increases in Q3 with double digit gains. In fact, the GMC Hummer EV was the brand’s 5th best selling model in Q3.

Hummer EV: 5,246 sold in Q3. Up 21.8% 13,233 sold YTD. Up 48.6%

Sierra EV: 3,374 sold in Q3. Up 771.8%. 6,147 sold YTD. Up 1,488.3%

Honda

2025 Honda Prologue Elite

Honda saw sales gains with its sole EV offering, the Prologue. Likely boosted by both the tax credit and cheap lease deals, the Prologue actually outsold the Passport in Q3 by 124 units.

Prologue: 4571 sold in Q3. Up 15.7%. 36,553 sold YTD. Up 157.8%

Hyundai

2026 Hyundai Ioniq 5 Limited

Hyundai saw a huge sales boost with its EVs in Q3. The automaker says sales jumped 100% on the backs of models like the popular Ioniq 5.

Ioniq 5: 21,999 sold in Q3. Up 90%. 41,091 sold YTD. Up 36%

Ioniq 6: 2,810 sold in Q3. Up 29%. 9,132 sold YTD

Ioniq 9: 3,164 sold in Q3. 4,177 sold YTD

Jeep

2025 Jeep Wagoneer S

Jeep is another brand that saw a pretty substantial EV sales boost in Q3. The brand’s sole EV, the Wagoneer S, managed to outsell the gas powered Grand Wagoneer by a few thousand.

Wagoneer S: 4,163 sold in Q3. Up 5,378%. 10,426 sold YTD. Up 10,539%

Kia

2026 Kia EV9

Like Hyundai, Kia had a very good Q3. The brand says sales of its “electrified” models grew by 26%. But that “electrified” term encompasses hybrids, plug-in hybrids as well as EVs. Looking at Kia’s EV sales alone, the brand did well in September with over 5,000 sold between the EV6 and EV9. Kia sells a 3rd EV in the Niro EV, but since the Niro is also offered as a hybrid and plug-in hybrid, Kia groups its sales numbers into a single figure.

EV6: 2,116 sold in September. 11,077 sold YTD

EV9: 3,094 sold in September. 12,448 sold YTD

Lexus

2026 Lexus RZ 550e

Lexus sells a single EV in the RZ crossover. However Q3 wasn’t kind to the RZ with sales down over 36% for the year.

RZ: 86 sold in September. Down 83.6%. 5,339 sold YTD. Down 36.3%

Lucid

Lucid Gravity

The up and coming luxury EV brand keeps its sales results close to its chest. As a result there’s been a bit of drama surrounding how many EVs the company actually sold. Market analyst site Motor Intelligence apparently reported that Lucid only sold 910 vehicles in September; that number is up 55% and consists of 780 Air sedans and 130 of the new Gravity. But in a statement to electric-vehicles.com, a Lucid spokesperson said those numbers were wrong. “Those numbers are inaccurate and not even in the ballpark,” they told the site. So how many EVs did Lucid sell in both Q3 and September? We don’t know and the company has yet to release its Q3 results. And things may just end up staying that way.

Nissan

2025 Nissan Ariya Platinum+ e-4ORCE

Nissan’s EV sales actually slipped in Q3 because the automaker is in a unique position: it sells 2 EVs but both are on their way out. The Ariya is being discontinued after just a few years on the market and the current Leaf is set to get a new generation. Both of these factors may have affected sales.

Ariya: 3,210 sold in Q3. Down 42.2%. 14,829 sold YTD. Down 0.5%

Leaf: 724 sold in Q3. Down 84%. 4,649 sold YTD. Down 38.7%

Polestar

Polestar 3 Long range Single motor

The Chinese backed Swedish EV maker released Q3 results, but they weren’t for the US market specifically. The automaker said it sold 18,049 cars globally in Q3, which is up 38.1% year over year.

Rivian

Rivian R1T

Another company that doesn’t really get into too many specifics with its sales figures, Rivian released overall totals for its Q3 sales. The company said it produced 10,720 vehicles and delivered 13,201 vehicles.

Subaru

2025 Subaru Solterra

Subaru sells just one EV in the Solterra, which was jointly developed with Toyota. While there’s an updated Solterra coming for 2026 as well as 2 all new EVs – the Trailseeker and Uncharted – the automaker is still facing a bit of an uphill battle getting buyers into the Solterra. Sales were down in September but YTD sales were up slightly.

Solterra: 443 sold in September. Down 58.8%. 9,972 sold YTD. Up 9.1%

Toyota

2025 Toyota bZ4X Limited AWD

Like Lexus, Toyota sells just one EV in the Toyota bZ. Like Lexus, despite lease deals and the EV tax credit, buyers didn’t show up for the bZ at dealers in Q3. Sales were down over 95% in Q3 compared to last year. To be fair, this may all have something to do with a heavily updated bZ arriving for 2026.

bZ4X: 61 sold in September. Down 95.4%. 12,264 sold YTD. Down 9.7%

Volvo

2025 Volvo EX90

Volvo didn’t give exact sales stats for its Q3 results. Sort of. The Swedish brand said that EVs made up 12% of sales during Q3, which was up 71% vs 2024. EVs also made up 9.5% of YTD sales which were also up 129% compared to the year before. While those gains are good, Volvo said that sales of its electrified models – which consist of both PHEVs and full EVs – were down 23.7%.

Volkswagen

2025 VW ID.4

Surprisingly, VW’s ID.4 was one of just three vehicles in its lineup that saw sales gains. Sales of the ID.4 are up 4% year over year. On the other hand, VW’s retro EV van, the ID.Buzz, hasn’t seemed to be as popular as some thought it would be with just a couple thousand sold during Q3.

ID.4: 14,470 sold in Q3. Up 176% year over year. 22,125 sold YTD

ID.Buzz: 2,469 sold in Q3. 4,934 sold YTD

Takeaways

The biggest winners here are Hyundai, GM and Ford. All three automakers saw big gains on the backs of buyers wanting to take advantage of the EV Tax Credit at the last minute. Losers here seem to be automakers that had models that were hyped or anticipated (VW, Dodge), models that are on their way out or are soon to be updated (Ariya,Leaf,ZDX) or models that buyers don’t really seem to be interested in anymore (bZ, Solterra,RZ,). But even with some automaker’s sales up and others down, the results are clear: EVs are here to stay. While many may get irritated at the fact that the credit is gone, there is a silver lining to all of this. With the credit not being there to entice buyers anymore, automakers will have to make EVs better than ever as factors like range and features become more important than a discount on the vehicle’s price.
